Speaking

George Chen is a practitioner–scholar specialising in the interplay between technology and policy. He’s also an expert in the strategic triangle between the US, China, and Taiwan, and related geopolitical impacts on the Indo-Pacific region. A native of Shanghai who now calls Hong Kong his home, George has been working on and living through all major political changes in Hong Kong since the early 2000s. He’s been also an expert on Taiwan politics and a witness of several major elections in Taiwan over the past decade.

With his more than 20 years experience in covering the full Greater China region, from Beijing to Shanghai, Hong Kong to Taipei, and to Macau, George has been a frequent speaker on current affairs and regulatory matters for public audience as well as in closed-door meetings with senior executives, corporate boards, diplomats, and policymakers across the Indo-Pacific region. George is also an author and editor of several books about business and politics in China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, and growing US-China competitions in the aspects of technology and digital trade.

George has written for the South China Morning Post, Reuters, Nikkei Asia, Foreign Policy (magazine), and The Bund (Shanghai), among many local and international media outlets. He’s often quoted in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Financial Times, The Associated Press, Bloomberg and other media outlets on technology and policy related issues. George has also appeared on the BBC, NBC, Al Jazeera, CNA (Singapore), Xinhua (China), and TVB (Hong Kong) for interviews and commentaries.
